Online Degree – Overcoming Old Traditions
You may have noticed lately that wherever you go on the Web, you are seeing advertisements about education.
If you have taken a closer look at these advertisements, you may have noticed that they are often for getting an online degree.
Many people just ignore or dismiss these degrees as second class because historically that is how our society has looked at distance education programs such as the correspondence courses of old.
What you may not realize is that the modern online degree program is far more sophisticated and advanced than the old correspondence degree programs.
How Traditional Misconceptions Have Slowed Online Degree Acceptance
One of the big clogs of societies in the West is that the traditional way of doing things is somehow better or more appropriate. Online degree programs are no longer a new thing, but the majority of people still come from an era when education meant dedicated most of daily life to a campus location. Many conclude that an education can’t be as high quality if it is obtained in any other manner.
You can find many examples where other innovations in history were equally held back by tradition-based misconceptions. Just think back over a hundred years ago at the example of Henry Ford.
He couldn’t get a loan from the Bank of Michigan to start up the automobile industry simply because the bank believed an automobile was a fad that could never replace a long-term transportation solution like the horse and buggy.
Many people in society just get too bogged down in what they’ve experienced to open their minds to what else is possible, or even better. So even as technology expands exponentially, people still tend to favor old ways over new ones when it comes to things such as a campus degree versus an online degree.
Why Things Are Changing For Online Degree Programs
Things are quickly beginning to change for online degree programs, just as the car caught the world by storm once it could be mass produced. As more and more people go out and reach great heights of success with their online degrees, more respect is being given to this form of education.
The one thing people can never successfully argue against is positive evidence of results.
It is now getting to the point where those with an online degree are heading up organizations, so those who want to criticize these online degrees had better be aware of the company in which they make their criticisms.
